Abstract

Biography

Professor Maureen Hassall is Director and Professorial Research Fellow of UQ’s Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC) and director of UQ R!SK at The University of Queensland. She has over 30 years experience working in industry and in academia developing and leading innovative transformational change projects in the areas of risk management, human factors, systems and process safety engineering and organizational development. She is passionate about delivering evidence based research and education solutions that deliver significant and sustainable improvements to the health, safety, and wellbeing of workers, work processes and workplaces. Her qualifications include engineering and psychology degrees, a MBA and a PhD in Cognitive Systems Engineering. Maureen a Registered and Chartered Professional Engineer, a Certified Practicing Ergonomists, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Currently employed as an Operations Manager and the 2 I/C of the Mine Inertisation Unit for Queensland Mines Rescue Service, Brent has spent over 20 years in the coal industry with the last 12 years working for Queensland Mines Rescue Service in training and management. During his time in mining, he has completed his VO competencies, gained certification in risk management and has been involved in the design and implementation of various mines rescue equipment to improve safety in mines.

Alex is responsible for the strategic growth of Sentis and has been working to enhance Sentis’ portfolio of services in an operating context. These have included the development and validation of Sentis’ Critical Risk Culture Diagnostics, Incident Analytics and Critical Control Assurance Programs. Alex is an experienced business leader and management consultant with experience across diverse range of high-risk industries including mining, ports, manufacturing and utilities sectors. He has several years in safety and business improvement initiatives including large scale workforce development, critical risk management, incident analytics, governance, and assurance programs. Alex is well known for his systems thinking and highly collaborative approach to co-develop sustainable programs positively impact organisations and reduce exposure in high-risk contexts.
