A national-scale assessment of carbonatite-related rare earth element mineral system potential in Australia

10:50 AM - 11:05 AM

Biography

Arianne is a spatial data analyst whose focus is on the use of spatial statistics and machine learning for evaluating mineral potential using mineral systems based approaches. She joined Geoscience Australia in 2022 as the Activity Leader for Mineral Prospectivity & Prediction and previously worked extensively in both academia and industry, largely focused on mineral potential mapping studies. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and a PhD in Economic Geology, both from James Cook University.

Lithium pegmatite deposits: A geometallurgical approach

11:05 AM - 11:20 AM

Biography

Since starting her career in 2012, Jamie has developed her skills in planning, implementation and supervision of drill programs, production duties, mentoring and supervising teams, geological modelling, and resource estimation, specialising in gold, lithium, and rare earth elements. Most recently, she has worked with Western Australian mining companies performing Mineral Resource Estimation for a range of producing and resource development projects. She is an expert user of Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, and Supervisor geostatistical software.

Characterisation of clay-hosted REE projects in WA

11:20 AM - 11:35 AM

Biography

Manuel completed his PhD at Murdoch University and CSIRO Mineral Resources in Perth, Western Australia. His research investigated the role of hydrothermal mineral replacement reactions as ore-forming mechanisms in polymetallic and REE deposits. Manuel holds an MSc in Geology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, where his thesis focused on the exploration of MVT-type deposits in the North German Basin. Manuel has experience in the fields of mineralogy, exploration geochemistry, and mineral characterisation from the deposit to the nanoscale using various analytical techniques. He published research on the genesis of carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn and polymetallic mineral deposits, the formation of migmatitic rocks, quantification of halloysite and kaolinite, and the extraction of Pb from galena. Manuel is an expert in hydrothermal ore formation and metal mobility in sulphide and REE deposits, and he has previously worked in mineral processing.

Styles and controls on lateritic Ni-Co-Sc ores: Insights from New Caledonian deposits

11:35 AM - 11:50 AM

Biography

Yoram has completed his PhD in 2012 at IPGP (France) during which he investigated the climate and the composition of the Precambrian atmosphere through the study of Archaean paleosols from the Pilbara craton. From 2013 to 2015, he worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Exploration Targeting, UWA, focusing on high grade iron ore from the Pilbara craton. He then worked as a research scientist at the Georessources laboratory in Nancy (France) where he developed research projects on Ni-Co-Sc laterites from New Caledonia, supergene gold from French Guiana and sandstone-hosted uranium deposits from Niger, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Yoram has recently been recruited at CSIRO within the Mineral Resources – Discovery group, to pursue research activities devoted to supergene ore deposits

Dr Joshua Combs
Chief Geologist
Azure Minerals Limited

A night at the Museum: The Andover lithium discovery story

11:50 AM - 12:05 PM

Biography

Dr Joshua Combs is an explorationist with over 10 years’ experience in exploration in Australia and internationally. His PhD project at the University of Oxford was based in Western Sahara, involving the geological mapping of a 12,000km2 area, and applying several techniques to collected samples including geochemistry, geochronology, petrology, and mineral chemistry to construct a comprehensive geological and geodynamic model. This was used as the basis for detailed prospectivity analysis of the region evaluating several in mineralisation styles including magmatic Ni-Cu sulphide, orogenic gold, PGM-bearing stratiform chromitites, orthomagmatic Fe-Ti-V oxide deposits and Superior-type Fe. Following this, he worked for IGO at their Nova Ni-Cu-Co sulphide project for over two years where he was responsible for target generation for the active near-mine exploration program. Dr Combs joined Azure in early 2021 as a Senior Exploration Geologist and was instrumental in the planning and execution of the resource drill outs of the Andover and Ridgeline Ni-Cu-Co sulphide deposits including completing geological modelling used in support of the MRE. Additionally, he has been leveraging his technical skillset driving the nickel and lithium exploration programs at Andover, codeveloping a technical framework for the program and developing the target pipeline for the project.
