Biography

Dr Chris Griffith is the Senior Process Chemist and Principal Consultant within the ANSTO Minerals business unit. His role encompasses a wide range of activities in lithium, rare earth, uranium, zirconium / niobium and vanadium processing, including desktop assessment of prospective projects, flowsheet selection and definition, radioactivity deportment/management and continuous piloting for demonstration and design purposes. Over a 23 year career, Chris has been involved in research and technology development in the nuclear industry, and process development for the mining and minerals processing industries. Chris has been with ANSTO Minerals since 2008 and since then has led, or contributed to, the process development and piloting efforts on numerous Australia and overseas critical minerals projects and operations. Chris is the Program Sponsor for “High Purity Silica Program” at ANSTO which is part of the National Critical Minerals R&D Hub, a collaboration with CSIRO and GeoSciences Australia and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

Damian Vassallo is the Honeywell APAC Director for Mining, Minerals and Metals. Damian has global experience in Security, Governance, Risk, and Compliance; and is a recognised technology leader with over 20 years of experience in Information Technology Systems and Engineering Management. Damian is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at The University of Queensland School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering and was awarded Manufacturing Monthly - Endeavour Awards - Global Supply Chain Integration of the Year in 2019.

They have specialized in optimization using software and are passionate about innovation and interested in applying new technologies and methodologies to enhance process efficiency in mining and make it more sustainable. Their goal is to continue developing their skills and knowledge in this field and contribute to the growth and development of the mining industry.

Biography

Tim leads CSIRO’s functional nanosystems team. The team comprises engineers and physicists who are developing nanomaterial-enabled devices to solve global challenges. Currently they are developing solutions that span water purification membranes, 6G+ telecommunications and superconducting field sensors. Tim’s own work focuses on 2D materials with an interest in commercialising GraphAir, a novel separation membrane invented by CSIRO, especially in the minerals processing sector.

Securing project approvals for emerging technology involving nickel and cobalt processing facilities

Biography

Dylan is an environmental planner with fourteen years of experience in the mining, extractive industry, transportation, energy and land development sectors in Australia and Canada. Dylan’s extensive Australian experience includes managing and preparing environmental and land use impact assessments, securing statutory approvals, preparing approvals strategies and providing tenure and tenement advice for resource and infrastructure projects in Queensland’s Bowen, Surat and Galilee Basins and North-West Minerals Province, and the Western Coalfields, Hunter Valley and Southern Highlands in New South Wales. Dylan has managed the delivery of complex and technically challenging projects and successfully performed in a variety of roles that have required statutory interpretation and advice, technical analysis of environmental and planning constraints, site assessments and development of environmental management plans.

Biography

Elise is an environmental engineer with five years’ experience working on a range of projects in the mining and infrastructure sectors. Her exposure to environmental and civil design includes delivery of projects from a pre-feasibility stage through to detailed design and into IFC. Elise has experience with hydrology and hydraulic modelling of surface water and civil design. Elise’s involvement in projects with an environmental emphasis included mine closure and rehabilitation design as well as development of Environmental Impact Statements. Project work incorporated conceptual, interim and final landform design, erosion and sediment control, long term monitoring and stakeholder engagement. Elise’s project experience has provided her with exposure to and involvement in large multidisciplinary teams where she was involved in both design and project management.
