Biography

Geoff is an exploration geologist and manager with 35 years of multi-commodity resource industry experience in a wide variety of geological terrains in Australia and overseas. As SIMEC Mining’s Chief Geologist, Geoff is tasked with leadership of the geoscience discipline and has accountability for building the resource base in multiple commodities to support SIMEC's growth strategy. He has previously held Chief Geologist and Technical Director roles. Geoff is a graduate of the University of Adelaide where he completed Honours and PhD degrees in geology. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science from Murdoch University and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) and the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG).

As the President of the AusIMM Adelaide Student Chapter, he advocates for collaborative STEM communication within the minerals industry. Oliver is studying a Master of Resources and International Commercial Law at the University of Western Australia in conjunction with future Mineral Economics coursework. He is committed to adapting the industry’s ability to accelerate investment into mineral assets, expediting production from mineral discoveries.

Biography

Kate du Preez is Queensland’s Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health. Kate has more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry across Africa and Australia, including working in underground coal mines and in management positions. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering and was the first woman in South Africa to hold a mine manager’s certificate of competency in coal mining. As a miner herself, Kate is passionate about the resources industry and is a strong advocate for resources safety and health issues.

Biography

Nikky is a passionate researcher with 15 years of experience in Mining Engineering with a focus on occupational health and safety research. Her research interests include respirable dust, accident and injury data analysis, emergency management and self-escape. She has underground and surface coal experience having worked in Australia, North & South America with a focus on strategic planning, project management and mine planning.

Biography

Sarah is a Graduate Sustainability Consultant at Advisian. In her role Sarah works with clients to advise them on how to make their operations more sustainable. Sarah has worked to prepare materiality assessments and sustainablity roadmaps for a number of ports and mining clients. Prior to her role at Advisian, Sarah worked at DELWP (now DEECA) where she worked in biodiversity conservation and Traditional Owner engagement. While at DELWP Sarah prepared a paper on how climate change disproportionally affects First Nations people and the how this interacts with climate change adaptation. In addition to the above, while completing her degree Sarah worked for her university in facilitating Indigenous science workshops in high schools, specifically Indigenous sustainability principles.
