Biography

Frank Wangutya Wanganeen is a Kaurna / Nurungga Man who was raised on Point Pearce Mission on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia. He is passionate about Reconciliation and has been on involved in various committees that deal with Reconciliation. He has been on the Adelaide City Council Reconciliation Committee, Campbelltown Reconciliation Committee, and Salisbury RAP Committee Aboriginal Heritage, Native Title, social justice and the revival of the Kaurna Language. Frank also conducts Kaurna cultural tours in the Adelaide CBD and surrounding areas where he creates awareness regarding Kaurna Cultural Heritage and raises the awareness about Aboriginal issues. Frank is the 2017 recipient of the Premier`s NAIDOC Award which he received for his contribution and ongoing work in the area of the revival of the Kaurna Language, Aboriginal Heritage, Native Title, and community engagement.

Biography

Alex graduated from Liverpool John Moores university in 1998 as a mechanical engineer and immediately started working in the automotive industry as a materials handling system designer. From here Alex progressed through several roles and gained experience of all aspects of materials handling system delivery such as design, manufacture, assembly, delivery, installation and commissioning. In his last role before emigrating to Australia, Alex was the Managing Director of a specialised materials handling system supplier for over five years. Alex changed industry sectors in 2011 when he started a Project Management role with Sandvik and successfully delivered three of the largest bulk materials handling machines into Australia. The project had a value of circa $150 Million and was completed under budget and ahead of schedule, securing a bonus to Sandvik for early practical completion. From here Alex led the Mining System Customer Service team supporting clients with the installed base of over 100 stockyard machines in Australia. Alex is now responsible for ensuring the success of the FLSmidth Mining Systems Product Line within Australia Asia Pacific by providing full product technical and operational support across the mining and cement industries in accordance with the global product strategy.

Biography

Having personally led six major business transformations over his 30 year career, Stephen Durkin is regarded as a seasoned change agent. Since May 2017 Stephen has been CEO of the AusIMM, the peak body for professionals in the mining industry, following the five years prior as CEO of Engineers Australia. In both instances Stephen has led widely applauded transformations of these long-standing Institutes to rebuild them to be more contemporary, financially sustainable, and with a stronger external brand. Prior to these positions leading professional associations, Stephen was at National Australia Bank for 15 years in a number of senior executive leadership roles including as State Manager, Retail Bank NSW/ACT. Stephen Durkin holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). Stephen has extensive experience in business and association management, and possesses highly-regarded skills in government, media and community relations. Stephen's leadership sets out the importance of teams and culture in building high performance organisations.

Biography

Tom has spent his entire life in Adelaide’s Western suburbs, attending Cowandilla and Netley primary schools before completing his secondary education at Adelaide High School. After school, Tom studied at the University of Adelaide, driving a taxi and working as a shop assistant and business operator in his family’s small business to pay for his tuition. Tom’s interest in politics began when, as a 14-year-old, he joined the Labor Party and started volunteering in the office of former Labor Deputy Premier Jack Wright. Tom went on to be elected Secretary of South Australian Young Labor and worked as a personal assistant to the Honourable Michael Atkinson MP, and as an Industrial Advocate for the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association. Tom was elected to the South Australian State Parliament on 11 October 1997, at the age of 26, and has been re-elected at every state election since that time. He is the Member for West Torrens in Adelaide’s inner-Western suburbs. Tom became a Minister in the Labor State Government in 2009 and remained in Cabinet until the 2018 State election. Over this period, he served as Minister for Corrections, Youth and Volunteers, Gambling, Small Business, Transport, Planning and Infrastructure, Mining and Energy, State Development and as Treasurer. Tom delivered four State Budgets as Treasurer, instituting wide-spread tax cuts for small and medium businesses and helping transition South Australia’s economy following the closure of Holden. Following the election of a Malinauskas Labor Government in March 2022, Tom was appointed Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, and Minister for Energy and Mining.

Biography

Dr Heithersay joined the South Australian public service in 2002, initially as executive director of the Geological Survey of South Australia within the Department of Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA). In June 2012, Dr Heithersay was awarded a Public Service Medal for his outstanding public service to the growth and development of the mineral resources sector in South Australia and in November 2012, elected to the Fellowship of the Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences (ATSE). In October 2013, Dr Heithersay was awarded the prestigious Legend in Mining award for his role in guiding South Australia’s transformation into a major destination for investment in mineral resources and energy.

Biography

Throughout her experience, Elyse has fostered a deep curiosity for the resource sector. She has learnt how invaluable it is and how important it is for us to maintain what we do but in a far more sustainable practise. She has been exceptionally busy for the past seven years; heavily involved with AusIMM, initially in the capacity of the AusIMM Adelaide Student Chapter and now the AusIMM New Professionals Network, and currently employed in the Social Performance Team at Oz Minerals Carrapateena, empowering local communities to realise their potential and to help create sustainable opportunities.
