Mining and Civil Integrity Testing

Friction rock stabiliser QAQC and a process to investigate high pull test failure rates

1:20 PM - 1:40 PM

Biography

After completing his studies at the WA School of Mines, Rhett has worked in underground mining across Queensland and Western Australia across a range of commodities including Lead Silver & Zinc, Gold, and Diamonds. While having had a strong geotechnical focus his roles have also encompassed drill & blast, scheduling and geology. He is currently Manager Operations and Technical Services for Mining and Civil Integrity Testing.

Emma Jones
Principal Study Manager - Geotechnical
MineGeoTech

Ground support rationalisation at Golden Grove

1:40 PM - 2:00 PM

Biography

John has more than 25 years of experience in mining and geotechnical engineering. His specialties include: - Dynamic testing and analysis of rock reinforcement and support systems, resulting in a vast knowledge of reinforcement response to dynamic energy, and using this knowledge in designing ground support schemes for these environments. - Rock mass and ground support scheme response and design in a seismic and non-seismic environment. - Using statistical methods for rock mass description and analysis improving confidence in the results. - Identifying and applying technology to forecast and assess rock mass response to excavation and utilising this information to implement sustainable mine designs. - Open stope dilution/performance/sequencing and development. - Longitudinal sublevel caving design, implementation, recoveries, and ground response to production. - Assessment of rock mass conditions to forecast response to mining, then utilising this knowledge to establish better mine design and sequencing. Player spent seven years from 2003 undertaking his PhD (Dynamic Testing of Rock Reinforcement Systems) then continuing as a Senior Research Fellow to undertake further data analysis and continue to develop the WASM Dynamic Testing Facility and associated equipment for determining the performance of reinforcement and support systems. During this time he has also undertaken consulting work to open-cut and underground mines in Western Australia.

Jolyon Jardine
Mining Manager
Hillgrove Resources

Intersection reinforcement with self-drilling anchors for improved productivity at Kanmantoo

2:00 PM - 2:20 PM

Biography

Jol is a Mining Engineer and Mine Manager. A leader in innovation, so far Jol has had a 30-year mining engineering career littered with many examples of developing creative practical solutions to solve problems as they arise in an underground environment. As an early adopter of new techniques, many of which he’s had the seed idea for the original innovation, in his past 2 years as Mining Manager for Hillgrove Resources in Sth Australia he’s embraced many emerging solutions to set the Kanmantoo mine on the cutting edge of safe, efficient, low emissions and cost operation. Jol was the founding person for the annual, safety event the establishment of the Sth Australian Mines Rescue Competition.

Mr Precious Jere
Principal Geotechnical Engineer | AMEAP
Master Builders Solutions

Performance of fully mechanized rock reinforcement using self-drilling anchors with pumpable resin technology

2:20 PM - 2:40 PM

Biography

PJ is an Engineering Geologist with over 12 years’ experience in a broad range of functions within the hard rock mining industry. He qualified in a BASc in Applied geology at Curtin university and gained 5 years of experience focusing on structural geology, core logging and filed mapping. Following this, he completed a master’s in mining, specialising in mine geotechnical engineering at the Western Australia School of Mines. Over his mining career, Precious has gained experience in and exposure to various challenging underground mining projects in the Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific region, including highly seismic operations, squeezing ground, high speed development, crown, and central pillar extraction. Currently, his primary focus is ground support regimes and in-cycle support optimisation to achieve responsible rapid underground development. Since joining Master Builders Solutions as Principal Geotechnical Engineer for the AMEAP region in 2020, he has continuously offered technical support, site trials, implementations and training on numerous world class mining projects on a range of MBS Underground construction technologies. These include anchoring, injection, backfill and sprayed concrete solutions. PJ has a pragmatic approach to implement best practice in ground support, rock reinforcement and is passionate about assisting mining operations adopt innovative solutions.
