Alex is a mining engineer with 16 years of experience in operational roles and as a consultant. His experience spans underground and open pit mining, with roles including geotechnical engineering, mine production and long term planning. He was a site engineer at the Cannington, Ernest Henry and Mount Isa mines over a 12 year period in various roles from graduate the engineering superintendent. Alex has worked on over 50 different mines across six continents since becoming a consultant four years ago. Alex’s specialises in mining strategy and geotechnical engineering for underground mines, particularly caving operations, and deep and highly seismic mines.

Paul is a Mining Engineer with over 40 years’ experience and is currently CEO at Enthalpy Pty Ltd. His comprehensive global practical engineering experience has been a foundation block to become a strong and motivational leader in the resources industry across mine operations, construction, contracting, consulting and corporate arenas.
During his consultancy career Paul has been able to capitalise on his strategic skills to lead numerous Independent Peer Reviews and Feasibility studies. The value add he brings to the clients is the ability to optimise and develop sustainable business plans to assist in meeting corporate objectives.
He has also fulfilled several senior roles including Global Head of Mining Anglo American, CEO AMC Consultants, Mining Practice Lead Advisian, Operations Manager Clough Engineering, Mine Manager at Northparkes and Renison Tin Mines, and Chief Mining Engineer at Mt Lyell Copper Mine.

Black Rock Cave (BRC): Overcoming challenging ground conditions and mitigating the impacts to production

Coming from a background in geology I retrained as a mining engineer at Camborne School of Mines.
After working as a Graduate Engineer and Shift Manager at a number of British Gypsums operations in the United Kingdom I moved to Australia in 2019.
Initially working in technical services completing short term planning and subsequently long term planning works for X41 at Mount Isa Mines, a role came up to run the technical and operational engineering at Black Rock Cave. Here I provide technical guidance to the engineering team and manage the production contract with PYBAR Mining Services to allow safe and efficient extraction from Black Rock Cave.

Rob Cunningham is a manager of Mining at Northparkes Mines. He has had 29 years’ experience in the mining industry working in a variety of roles both in open cut, underground mining, major projects and HSE support services.
He holds a statutory practicing certificate of competency as a Mining Engineering Manager and a Quarry Manager, and in 2018, he was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to Mining" NSW Minerals Council for advocacy of innovation and adoption of technology in the mining industry.

Ben joined Orica in 2020 after 14 years in the mining industry across Australia and Africa in owner-operator and mining contractor positions. As a Mining Engineer specialised in underground hard rock mining, Ben has held roles ranging from underground operations to technical engineering and Mine Management.
