Gabby is going into her final year of a dual degree of Mining Engineering and Geographical Sciences. She has completed placements at a range of open cut coal, open pit gold and underground gold mines, as both a mining engineer and environmental advisor. She is currently working on crew underground in South Australia, gaining some hands on experience. She enjoys both the technical challenges of underground mining, as well as the environmental aspects of mining. After graduating, Gabby would like to complete her crew time and work as an underground engineer, before completing post-graduate study relating to the environment and mining.

Heather studied at UNSW from 2010-2014 as mining engineer (bachelor’s). Following this, she embarked on a career in mining – working at FIFO operations in Queensland prior to settling into a residential role in Orange, currently with Newcrest.
During her career, she has completed technical based roles - operationally and planning based. This includes underground practical time and various technical roles in stoping and block caving operations. Currently she is in a Mining Engineering Superintendent position on site.
Heather enjoys the opportunities mining has brought – the ability to travel and spend time with family/friends. These opportunities are from enjoying a rewarding and challenging career as a mining professional out in the field.

Caitlin Strong

Caitlin Strong is a Masters student at the University of Kentucky researching ventilation. She has had internships at Warrior Met Coal, Rio Tinto’s Kennecott Mine, and Hecla Mining’s Lucky Friday Silver Mine where she worked on short range planning, logistics and ventilation. Caitlin is graduating in December of 2021 and will work for the Mine Safety and Health Administration in the ventilation technical support division.
