Biography

Alex Blood is Executive Director of Mineral Resources within the SA Department for Energy and Mining. Mineral Resources division is the lead environmental and technical regulator for the exploration, mining and quarrying sectors, and home of the world renowned Geological Survey of South Australia and the State’s geological datasets. Alex has extensive global experience within mining, oil and gas, infrastructure and industrial projects at State, national and international project levels, including uranium mining. She is Chair of Australian and New Zealand Board for environmental professional certification and in 2012 Alex became the first woman named Environmental Practitioner of the Year by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).

South Australia: a global leader in Uranium

Abstract

Biography

Rohan Cobcroft is currently employed as the Director Geological Survey of South Australia; this business unit forms part of the Mineral Resources Division within the Department for Energy and Mining. Prior to this role, he worked in the private sector and have 20 years’ experience in the mineral resources sector in senior roles in exploration management and project development fields. Rohan’s current role sees him striving to provide stakeholders in the South Australian resources community with geoscience information and services to de-risk exploration and resource projects. In addition, there is responsibility for strategic direction for both local, national and international clients, and operational matters to stay abreast of culture, governance and technology efficiency and efficacy. Rohan has the capacity recognise the importance of establishing relationships with all stakeholders both internal and external and the need to ensure environmental and social sustainability for all activities. In his various role, he has always sought out new challenges in environments that require significant risk management and robust mitigation strategies.

Ore Characterization Workflow for Pegmatite Hosted Uranium Mineralisation

Biography

Alex Otto is a geoscientist with over 15 years' experience from mineral industry and academia across Australia, Canada and Africa. He has expertise in uranium, gold and lithium. As uranium geologist Alex work on a wide variety of uranium deposit types such as albitite-, alaskite-, calcrete- and sandstone-hosted. At his previous company CSIRO, Alex was leading R&D projects focused on ore body characterisation and detecting mineralisation through cover such as the MinEx CRC Project 9, which provides province- to camp-scale mineral systems models and applying data science principles to highlight areas of high prospectivity. Alex is now Chief Geologist at Deep Yellow.

Robert Lightfoot – Senior Geologist BSc (Hons) Geology and Computing; Robert graduated from the University of Plymouth with a BSc (Hons) in Geology and Computing in 2005, and moved to Australia in 2012. He has been employed with Alligator Energy for almost 9 years developing extensive uranium exploration experience in both sedimentary and hard rock mineralisation styles. Further mineral, market and industry experience exists in Ni-Co through Alligator Energy’s Piedmont project and in house due-diligence of external projects.

Prospectivity analysis of the Athabasca Basin for unconformity-type uranium

Abstract

Biography

Andy has had a long career in mineral exploration and academia spanning over 35 years. His academic experience has included teaching at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman and leading various research projects in the Predictive Mineral Discovery CRC based at Monash University in Melbourne. He has been an author of nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal papers. His industry experience has included senior roles at BHP and Gold Fields focussing on gold and base-metal exploration. His interest in uranium began in 1982 with Uranerz Australia, exploring for unconformity-type deposits in the Alligator Rivers region. This lead to a PhD researching the major Nabarlek, Jabiluka and Koongarra deposits. After spells as chief geologist for Paladin and Deep Yellow, and consulting for numerous exploration companies, as well as the United Nations IAEA, Andy has recently stepped into the role of exploration manager for newly listed 92 Energy. 92 Energy is exploring for unconformity-type deposits in the Athabasca Basin of Saskatchewan, which brings his career nearly to full circle.

Biography

Andy Carmichael is a Professional Geoscientist who has primarily explored for unconformity-related uranium deposits in the Athabasca Basin since 2008. Andy was a member of the team that discovered the Hurricane Zone and has also worked at the J-Zone, Triple R, Phoenix and Gryphon deposits. Andy has also explored for uranium in the Hornby Bay Basin, Colorado Plateau, and Namibia.
