Workshop | 10 Things Every Geologist Needs to Know about Mineral Processing

Date: Thursday 23 April
Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm (AEST)
Catering: Refreshments and light lunch provided
Workshop Overview: Presented by experienced mineral processors, this interactive workshop helps geologists understand how mineralogy and rock characteristics influence processing performance. It explains key metallurgical terminology, testwork principles, and common industry conventions, enabling participants involved in exploration, geometallurgy, and project development to communicate more effectively with processing teams and make better-informed technical decisions.

Understanding mineral processing fundamentals empowers geologists to turn geological insight into real project value. By seeing how mineralogy and ore variability affect recovery, costs, and risk, you’ll be better equipped to support smarter decisions and stronger collaboration with processing teams. Join us and gain the knowledge that helps generate real process performance from your geological know-how.

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Early-career professionals who want to deepen their Early-career professionals looking to focus their development and build confidence in metallurgical concepts.
  • Managers and business leaders seeking clear insight into the opportunities and risks within the processing value chain.
  • Supervisors and team leaders wanting to ask sharper questions and better evaluate team performance.

Workshop presenters: Diana Drinkwater and Peter Munro

Workshop | Drilling awareness

Date: Thursday 23 April
Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm (AEST)
Catering: Refreshments and light lunch provided
Workshop Overview: This hands-on workshop at DDH1 provides a comprehensive introduction to modern drilling operations. Participants will rotate through interactive stations covering drilling fluids, air and RC drilling, directional drilling, and diamond drilling equipment. Industry experts will demonstrate key techniques, safety considerations, and sample recovery processes. Attendees will gain practical insight into drilling systems from planning to execution, while exploring real equipment and technology used in the field, with catering and networking included.
Workshop presenter: Peter Crennan
Cost (incl. GST): Complimentary

Please note that this workshop will be held offsite. Delegates are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the workshop venue.

Workshop | Mastering the Art of Reconciliation: Insights from Real-World Experiences

Date: Thursday 23 April
Time: 8:00am – 4:00pm (AEST)
Catering: Refreshments and light lunch provided
Workshop Overview: Join us for a full-day workshop focused on improving reconciliation across the mining value chain. Reconciliation should build confidence and clarity - not confusion. This workshop explores how to make it a practical, value-adding process rather than just a reporting exercise.

The training will cover:

  • Core principles and modern reconciliation frameworks, including how reconciliation has evolved and what best practice looks like today
  • Clear definitions of what should be reconciled at each stage of the mining value chain, from resource model to mill
  • Real-world case studies that highlight both common pitfalls and successful approaches
  • Why variances occur, how to distinguish between random and systematic error, and how to interpret differences without jumping to conclusions
  • The role of sampling, estimation, grade control, mining practices and processing performance in reconciliation outcomes
  • Practical approaches to improving reporting confidence, transparency and data clarity
  • Techniques for diagnosing root causes rather than simply reporting variances
  • Insights to strengthen alignment between geology, mine operations and processing teams, creating a shared understanding of performance

This workshop is ideal for geologists, mining engineers, metallurgists and technical managers seeking clear, practical guidance to enhance reconciliation outcomes and improve cross-disciplinary understanding within their operations.

Workshop | Unlocking the Value of Structural Geology in Mining, Exploration & 3D Modelling

Date: Thursday 23 & Friday 24 April
Time: Day 1: 9:00am – 5:00pm (AEST)
           Day 2: 9:00am –  4:00pm (AEST)
Catering: Refreshments and light lunch provided
Workshop Overview: SRK and Seequent will host this structural geology and 3D modelling short course. In this two-day course, participants will develop skills in structural data collection and interpretation through hands-on practical exercises using drill core samples and structural data from real deposits.
Participants will learn how to integrate applied structural geology with 3D geological modelling and gain confidence in effective application of structural geology in near-mine, brownfields or greenfields exploration and for resource estimation.
